Working with Labs

Your program may use Labs to give you a checklist of Skill evaluations, Patient evaluations, and Sim Sessions for one lab day.

  1. Go to Evaluations.
  2. Open Labs.
  3. Select a Lab to view it.

You only see Labs in which you are a participant. Your program must assign you to the Lab before it appears, and you must be eligible to use EMCE Pro.

The Lab screen contains:

  • Overview, with the Lab date, description, and requirements.
  • Your Progress, with your completion progress for each requirement.
  • Peers to Evaluate, with peer-evaluation opportunities that are available to you or already claimed by you.

Lab evaluations that require your attention can also appear in your evaluation To Do list. Select a requirement in Your Progress to review its related evaluations.

The Lab checklist is separate from your cohort requirements, but the Skill and Patient evaluations you complete in a Lab still count toward cohort requirements when they meet the same criteria.

For a Patient requirement, complete the patient evaluation and every skill listed with it. For a Sim Session requirement, you receive Lab credit for participating after your evaluation from that session is approved. Team members can perform different suggested skills; you do not have to perform every skill listed for the scenario.

  1. Open the Lab’s Peers to Evaluate tab.
  2. Select an available student.
  3. Confirm Evaluate student name?.
  4. Complete the evaluation or save your progress.

Claiming makes you the evaluator and prevents the opportunity from appearing to other students. An unfinished evaluation remains marked In progress in the Lab and appears in your evaluation To Do list so you can resume it.

An evaluation awaiting its evaluator’s approval remains pending and does not advance your Lab progress until it is approved.

When you have finished entering the work you completed, tap Done. A Lab does not require a signature, and you do not have to reach 100% before marking it done. The evaluations you did complete remain counted. After marking the Lab done, you cannot add more data to it.

A Lab may also have a schedule event. Open that event to view its date, location, attendance, and Lab details.

Students cannot self-sign-up for student slots on Lab-linked events. Faculty manage participation from the Lab roster. If your program allows event drop requests, you can request to leave the event using the normal drop-request workflow.

Some Labs are not connected to a schedule event. They still appear in Labs, and their evaluations still appear in Evaluations.
