Create and Manage Lab Templates
Open Lab Templates
Section titled “Open Lab Templates”- Go to Evaluations.
- Open Labs.
- Select the Templates tab.
Only Directors, Administrators, and instructors with Can manage labs can create or change templates. Other faculty can browse them.
Create a template
Section titled “Create a template”- On the Templates tab, tap the button.
- Enter a title and optional description.
- Select the profession and certification level.
- Tap Add Requirement and select Skill, Patient, or Sim Session.
- Configure the requirement, then tap the checkmark to add it to the template.
- Add any remaining requirements.
The template saves automatically. Wait for the Saved status before leaving the editor.
Keep each template scoped to one lab day. A template can contain a long checklist for a multi-hour activity, but assigning it creates one Lab and, when Scheduling is enabled, one linked calendar event.
Configure a Skill requirement
Section titled “Configure a Skill requirement”For a Skill requirement:
- Choose whether an Instructor or Peer evaluates the student.
- Select one skill.
- Set the Minimum successful attempts per student.
- Review or change the automatically suggested title.
- Optionally add subject matter and notes.
If students must perform a skill during a patient encounter, add it to the Patient or Sim Session requirement instead of creating a separate Skill requirement.
Configure a Patient requirement
Section titled “Configure a Patient requirement”For a Patient requirement:
- Choose the evaluator role.
- Select the age group and at least one pathology or complaint.
- Add optional patient details such as age, sex, and contact type.
- Under Skills, add each skill students must perform during every encounter and set the number of attempts.
- Set the minimum for every active learning objective. The objective names and available custom objectives come from the organization’s patient rubric.
- Set the minimum successful encounters per student.
- Review the title and add optional notes.
Configure a Sim Session requirement
Section titled “Configure a Sim Session requirement”Sim Session requirements are supervised by a facilitator and do not have a Peer or Instructor evaluator-role setting.
- Configure the simulated patient’s age, pathology, and other details.
- Add skills that may be performed during the scenario. These become suggestions that a facilitator can distribute among team members; every participant does not need to perform every skill.
- Review the minimums for the active learning objectives. In an assigned Lab, completion credit is based on approved participation in the Sim Session, not on meeting these score minimums.
- Set Team Size and the number of Sim Sessions per student.
- Optionally enable Hide Patient Info so participants cannot see patient demographics until they are revealed.
- Enter scenario text or use Generate Scenario to draft it with AI.
- Review the title and add optional notes.
If Sim sessions per student is greater than one, EMCE creates a separate round for every required session. It starts with the same team assignments for each round; faculty can adjust an individual session afterward.
Resolve template warnings
Section titled “Resolve template warnings”EMCE checks requirements before a template can be assigned or completed. Open any requirement showing a warning and add its missing information. Common causes include a missing skill, age group, pathology, evaluator role, or invalid minimum value.
Edit or remove a requirement
Section titled “Edit or remove a requirement”Open the template, then select a requirement to edit it. Use the requirement’s delete action to remove it.
Changes affect the template the next time it is used. They do not alter Labs that were previously created from it.
Clone a template
Section titled “Clone a template”- Open an existing template.
- Tap Clone Template.
- Confirm the action.
EMCE creates a copy with (Copy) appended to the title and opens the new template for editing. Change its title, certification level, or requirements as needed; the copy also saves automatically.
Delete a template
Section titled “Delete a template”Open the template and use its delete action. Deleting a template does not delete Labs that were previously created from it.
